You hit a nice person, accidentally, with your work truck. Small dent, no injuries, everybody seems cool.
So as the business owner, you’re thinking that you should pay for the damage repair out of pocket, and keep this claim off your business auto insurance, for fear of a rate increase. Plus, it’s the “right thing to do.”
No… it isn’t.
You could write that check, and even get that nice person to sign a meaningless release form. You feel great!
Until that nice person hears a “rattling” or that the quarter panel isn’t just the right color… or… or… or… Then you get a letter from “Nice Person” who demands that you pay for another set of repairs at their auto body shop, oh, and if you would, since you did LAST TIME, pay for their rental car while the repairs are being made.
You’ve just been scammed.
Always, always, always, file a claim. Always. Insurance companies don’t like to pay for things twice, and so they’re REALLY GOOD at getting rid of these little nuisance “nice people.”
You buy insurance to protect yourself, and the people you love. Use it to protect yourself, and the people you love, by filing claims.
Never do the right thing.
